The story

Northern England, early 1930s: on the eve of All Hallows’, whispers spread through the village of Little Brackenby that a headless rider has returned to the lane, bringing hoofbeats in the mist, old fear, and the promise of death; when the Belgian Detective and his loyal companion arrive, they find a countryside thick with superstition, inheritance worries, nervous witnesses, and a haunting that seems to keep perfect time, where a village legend, a grand house, and a carefully managed fright begin to point not toward the supernatural, but toward motive; from fog-bound roads to porch stones and midnight movements, the case becomes a Halloween battle between ghost-story terror and cold human design, until reason rides down what fear has dressed as a phantom. FOR LISTENERS This is an original Golden Age–style mystery presented as a respectful homage to classic detective fiction. All characters and events in this story are fictional. No affiliation, endorsement, or official connection is implied. QUESTION FOR THE COMMENTS If you heard hoofbeats in the fog on a deserted lane, would you trust the legend, the evidence, or your own nerves least?
