We record that a story was played, how far through it got, and the country the request came from. It is how we know which stories people finish and which they leave.

This is tied to a random string kept in your browser. It is not a name, an account, or anything derived from you — it exists so that one person listening to four stories in an evening is counted once rather than four times. Clearing your browser data removes it, and a new one is made if you come back.

We do not store your IP address, and we do not use tracking cookies or advertising networks. Where you stopped in a story is saved in your own browser and never sent to us.

A comment stores the name you typed, what you wrote, and the same random browser string. Your name is shown publicly with your comment.

An email address is optional. If you give one it is never shown to anyone, and it is used only to tell you when we reply to you — unless you tick the box asking for the nightly email, which is a separate choice you have to make deliberately.

The first comment from someone new is read before it appears. After that, comments from the same person appear straight away.

We keep your email address and the page you signed up from, so we know what brought you. Every message has an unsubscribe link, and leaving takes one click. We do not sell or share the list.

Payments are handled entirely by Stripe or PayPal. Your card details never reach this site and we never see them. We see the amount, the name on the payment, and the email the receipt went to.

We use other companies to run the site. Each sees only what it needs to do its job:

• Vercel — hosting; serves every page.
• Neon — the database holding listening figures and comments, in the EU.
• Bunny.net — delivers the audio and video.
• Stripe and PayPal — payments.
• Buttondown — the nightly email.
• Resend — sends replies to comments.

Some are based outside the EU. Where that is so, the transfer relies on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

Listening figures are kept for 24 months and then deleted. They stop being useful long before that.

Comments stay while the story is on the site, because a conversation with half of it removed makes no sense to anyone reading later. Ask us and yours goes.

Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Payment records are kept for six years, which Irish tax law requires of us.

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to contact@lavertyprod.ie and we will do it within a month. You do not have to give a reason.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.
